This 85-year old Wyler Superior Tank features a patented “Clamshell” waterproof case designed by Taubert Borgel in the 1930s. This was one of the first truly water-resistant designs for rectangular dress watches and is stamped BREV.DEM. Is the French abbreviation for brevet demandé—“patent pending.” Swiss makers stamped it in the 1930s–40s to show a design was filed but not yet granted; after approval you’ll often see BREV. DEP. or BREVETÉ with a patent number. Dial typography, four-screw steel case stamped “Acier Inoxydable,” and overall design place this in the 1940s. Caseback no. 66426 is a case code. Period-correct features and printing align with Wyler’s mid-century “Superior” line.

I am so happy with this purchase! Communication was super easy with EVW and they negotiated on price. Upon receiving the watch, I was simply stunned. The condition of restoration is incredible. The gold case is flawless, the case back is perfect, and the dial has only 1 small imperfection (pictured in listing, expected). For a watch from 1982, this is amazing. The Caliber 1110 movement is working very smoothly. The quick-set date is great, and the power reserve is too.
