Glashütte Beobachtungsuhr, c. 1945
An A. Lange & Söhne Beobachtungsuhr from c. 1945 represents German naval timekeeping at the end of World War II. The watch is built as a U‑Boat/Deck observation piece with a matte black dial and radium luminous numerals, housed in nickel/chrome plated brass consistent with wartime construction. Under the caseback sits the Caliber 48, a manual‑wind movement developed for precise navigation, notable for its oversized balance, swan‑neck regulator and hacking seconds. For the modern collector, it is an instructive example of Glashütte’s technical approach to rugged, highly legible military instruments.
