This particular model is Powered by Zenith’s early post-war in-house calibre 40, this Sporto hails from the rugged 1950s line Zenith couldn’t even sell in the US due to a trademark clash with Zenith Radio—making vintage Sportos notably scarce there today. In the 1950s Zenith equipped many Sporto models with a patented clear acrylic inner dust cover – an unusual mid-century solution that gave extra protection against dust and moisture and has become a distinctive signature of the line..Movement serial 4559••90 (full number in buyer documents). Zenith cal. 40 with small seconds and this case/dial style place the watch in the 1950s; Zenith serial tables are incomplete, so we date it to the decade rather than a specific year.

 

Specifications

Movement: Hand-wound Zenith in-house cal. 40, 17 jewels, ~18,000 A/h; serviced 11/2025 with invoice and service certificate.

Dial: Original cream dial with applied gold indices and numerals, small seconds and even speckled patina.

Crystal: Acrylic (period-correct).

Case: Stainless-steel case with patented clear acrylic inner dust cover nad snap-back (press-fit) back; honest vintage wear.

Size: 34 mm diameter (without crown); 18 mm lug width; slim mid-century proportions on the wrist.

Crown: original crown; winds and sets smoothly.

Strap/Bracelet: Brown leather 18 mm strap, aftermarket, comfortable and ready to wear.

Water-Tightness: Splash resistant only; not pressure-tested, avoid swimming or showering.
