Questo orologio IWC Schaffhausen è alimentato da un movimento Calibre 73 a carica manuale risalente al circa 1915, stabilito attraverso il numero di serie del movimento. Originariamente prodotto per un orologio da tasca, è stato successivamente convertito per essere indossato al polso, portando un importante esempio dell'orologeria di Schaffhausen dei primi del '900 in un formato contemporaneo.
Il Calibre 73 occupa anche un posto interessante nella storia più ampia che alla fine ha portato all'IWC Portugieser. Era la versione a faccia aperta, o Lépine, della famiglia di movimenti da 17 linee di IWC, mentre il strettamente collegato Calibre 74 era il suo equivalente da cacciatore, o Savonnette. Nel 1939, IWC scelse il Calibre 74 per alimentare i primi orologi Portugieser Referenza 325.
Il quadrante restaurato preserva il carattere d'epoca del pezzo, mentre il suo sostanziale movimento da orologio da tasca e la conversione per il polso creano una combinazione distintiva di ingegneria storica e vestibilità moderna. Offre ai collezionisti un collegamento tangibile alla tradizione dei grandi calibri all'inizio del secolo scorso, che sarebbe poi diventata centrale per l'identità dell'IWC Portugieser.

I am so happy with this purchase! Communication was super easy with EVW and they negotiated on price. Upon receiving the watch, I was simply stunned. The condition of restoration is incredible. The gold case is flawless, the case back is perfect, and the dial has only 1 small imperfection (pictured in listing, expected). For a watch from 1982, this is amazing. The Caliber 1110 movement is working very smoothly. The quick-set date is great, and the power reserve is too.
