Why this watch.

Early Certina DS, patent 346.825

An early 1960s Certina DS, built around the brand’s patent 346.825 construction, pairs period proportions with a distinctive turtle‑back case and a champagne dial that has developed an even vintage patina. The stainless steel case and domed acrylic crystal preserve the watch’s original 1960s appearance while the floating movement shock ring exemplifies Certina’s practical engineering of the era. Inside, the in‑house manual Cal. 25-66 with 17 jewels was recently serviced (10/2025), offering ready‑to‑wear reliability. For the contemporary collector, it represents a well‑documented example of mid‑century Swiss technical design and everyday usability.
