Reference 166.023 sits within the first-generation Seamaster Cosmic line, a late-1960s Omega family known for compact monocoque cases and dial-side access to the movement. That construction is one of the defining technical traits of the Cosmic family and helps separate it from more conventional two-piece Seamaster cases of the same period. The caliber 565 is one of Omega's better-regarded late-1960s date automatics. It belongs to the 55x and 56x movement family, uses 24 jewels, and pairs full rotor winding with a quick date mechanism, making it a technically strong everyday Omega movement for the era. This watch presents with an original silver sunburst crosshair dial, applied baton markers, slim hands, and a framed date window at 3. Those details give it the clean dress-sport look that defined many Seamaster Cosmics, while the gold-plated case adds a warmer and more distinctly period appearance than plain steel examples. The compact 33 mm case and short 37 mm span are typical of Omega's late-1960s proportions. The rounded C-shaped case profile is highly characteristic of the Cosmic series and gives the watch a clear period identity even before the dial text is read. The visible condition is honest vintage wear. The caseback shows notable scratching, the case retains its late-1960s form, the dial appears clean in the photos, and the movement looks consistent with the stated reference and caliber.
